The Prologue

Dina:
I weigh myself every day. EVERY DAY!! Anyone in the nutrition, fitness and wellness professions will tell you how erroneous this is, therefore, I stand corrected even as I write this. Most of you know, I’ve started my own venture with Feed Your Soul & the Nutrition Academy.  Numbers on a scale do not matter. Visually assess yourself NAKED in the mirror. If you are exercising, consuming the correct nutrients for your body and consistently following a plan, you will SEE results. The number doesn’t matter. The psychological games you play when you lose 2 pounds one day and gain 3 back the next are exhausting.
An affiliate, trusted friend, and personal trainer, Kelly LaCasse of Fitsique Body & Mind, asked me to throw away my scale. With great hesitation, I did. I felt a pang of guilt as it was a pretty nice scale but I also felt a small weight (no pun intended) lifted off my shoulders. Like I sort of surrendered…

Kelly:
As a Personal Trainer, Nutritional Consultant and Group Fitness Coach I frequently have conversations with friends, family members, even strangers that want to know how I can help them with their weight, nutrition or fitness enigmas.  In Dina’s case, it was two women just chatting about their lives in general…  I remember suggesting that Dina throw away her scale, but oh boy!, was I surprised when she told me she actually did it.  I felt a sense of relief for her.  Dina’s bold move is such a small percentage of success of all the conversations I have, I wish everyone had her drive to make one small step, and mean it.  What made her change her mind about that scale?  Only she really knows.  Why did I suggest that she throw away a perfectly good scale?  Because if you have a scale, this is not a daily tool.  Read that sentence again…….Using a scale is a guideline, try once a week, try once a month.  If you feel “__________” (you know what word you want to use) then stand or don’t stand on it.  If you were or were not consistent with your water intake, nutrition and exercise why are you playing games with yourself, do you really need a scale to determine your emotions?  If you insist on using a scale, be better to yourself and the scale will be better to you.  That is, if you decide to keep yours after reading these blogs….. Dina has decided NOT to stand on it.

Dina:
I have agreed to be the walking and talking testimonial for Kelly LaCasse/Fitsique Body & Mind. From beginning to…well, there is no real “end” on this journey. Kelly will provide the training and nutrition elements to the program and I have agreed to put it all out there on our respective blogs. Keeping it real…VERY REAL. From my triumphs to my failures, good days and bad, emotional upheaval and joy…it will be documented. In addition, Kelly will also add commentary on my progress, explain why she coaches and suggests certain tasks and keep me (and hopefully you) motivated to keep at it.

The purpose of this experiment is two-fold. First, what better way to show Kelly’s unbelievable talent as a personal trainer, a motivator and fitness guide than to have living, breathing proof. We share similar nutrition and exercise fallings in our pasts and sharing may strike a chord with someone in our audience – maybe our writing will be a wakeup call for some.  Second, I need to walk the walk and talk the talk in my own business venture at Feed Your Soul. I need to practice what I preach with regard to wholesome foods, nutritionally nourishing myself and my family, and promoting overall health and wellness. It’s time.

"Nothing to it but to Do it."

Kelly:
From the trainer point of view, Dina’s transformation will be as easy or difficult as she makes it!  I can see the determination in Dina and I can also understand some of her hesitation, Change Is Hard, Change Is Effort – but! – Effort + Change = Results.
I will start Dina with body composition measurements, BMI (Body Mass Index, meaning her height vs her overall weight), BF% (Body Fat Percentage), goal setting and complete nutritional guidance including a Customized Meal Plan specific to all of the above criteria and her caloric expenditure vs intake.   We will walk and talk through the psychological part hand in hand and compromise on our very strategic goals on a weekly or daily basis.  Dina’s exercise regimen will be very different from any other client I have worked with and I need to make sure that Kettle bells and TRX are giving her all the elements she needs:
Improved Posture
Faster Reflexes
Strength
Weight Loss
Replace the scale with a full length mirror!
This is how my training differs in ways from other trainers, industry standard is “lift this weight this way, this many times, in this direction, for this long”
Let’s make some changes!

“If You Can Change Your Mind You CAN Change Your Body”
