Day 67

Dina:

Two significant events happened to me this week.

I decided to participate in a 100 mile bike ride for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. While making this decision was quite monumental for me, it was the reaction from my loved ones that really took me aback. My family is supportive of my every whim…but that is just it. I have a lot of WHIMS…and not many materialize into fruitful endeavors. Nursing, paralegal, grad school…the list could go on and on.  So it shouldn’t have surprised me when I got a very tepid response to my announcement. Tepid, a few eye rolls, a big fat, “Okay Dina”…

Here is where my significant event happened. Normally, without that cheerleading, “go for it”, “you can do it” from my family, I would have slinked away from the challenge. Instead, I had a moment of  “okay, so you think I can’t and that’s fine…but I can. And I will.” There was something SO motivating about hearing that I can’t…and it not coming FROM MY OWN MOUTH!!! We all need support…but sometimes it does quite live up to your expectation. Guess what?? YOU can fill the gap. YOU can tell yourself that you can and you will. YOU can give yourself a push when no one else is around to do it for you. Dig deep…it’s there.

My second event occurred in the pool this morning. I was having a discussion with a friend about the Random Number Generator and how that number has not really budged despite working my ass off and really paying attention to my foods.  I wasn’t complaining…just kind of throwing it out there. And you know what she said? And this was not in a derogatory way at all…but she said “well, you are turning 40 this year.” I almost drowned. Not because of THAT random number, but because I hadn’t even let that thought come into my head during this whole process…until now. Is age significant when trying to lose and maintain weight loss? I may not have the body of a 25 year old…but I am certainly there (with way more responsibility) in my head. Does your “head space” matter?

Kelly and I reviewed my nutrient intake for the week and my fats were still high. The culprit? Olive oil. This week I switched to Olive Oil Pam…and it is like giving up my right arm. I have ALWAYS cooked with olive oil….ALWAYS. Tonight I wilted some spinach and kale and tossed it with some sautéed Brussels sprouts. All done with Pam. Sigh…it was delicious. :)

I continued with my exercise routine of TRX, swimming, and Yoga. This week I am adding some time on my recumbent bike. Gotta get ready :).

"Nothing to it but to Do it!"

Kelly:

LOVE the first 2 paragraphs.  Those are the kinds of things YOU (plural J  ) should be realizing when going through every change in life.  Doesn’t matter the change.  Change doesn’t come easy for many, many people.
Why do you think some people, though, are not afraid of change?

The third paragraph – WAIT – I’M BALD – pulling my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!!  Who in the hell said that to you about turning FORTY? FORTY? Forty.  Really.  Really? Rrrrreeeaalllllyyy???????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????  Yet another excuse that people listen to.   Show me that person, let them look into my eyes and IT’S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG.  That person disgusts me.  I hope they read this and I hope they are just as (eh-hem…ya rrriigghhht) pissed back at me.  If they’re mad, it’s because they know I am not wrong.   Who do you think you are?  You insecure little [BLEEP]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Don’t screw with OTHER people; get over YOURSELF.  Shut your mouth and open your God damn eyes you ignorant person.  Call me to discuss – 781 820 0152.  I’ll turn your world upside down.

Quite honestly, you’ve know for 39+ years that you’ll be forty.  Stop the crap.

Anyone ready to step into the ring with me today?  I’ll go….  Wait, where’s that ignorant person?  They’ll do….

Now, Olive oil is NOT something to avoid.  If Olive Oil doesn’t fit into your daily calories PROPERLY then you need to adjust.  Plain and simple, Dina is not understanding her daily caloric intake and split percentages yet.  I’m going to give you an idea of why I say this – I create 4 meal plans a week and 4 of them include Olive Oil.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again:
I will never tell you what not to eat; I will help you understand what you eat, why you eat it, when to eat it, and how - scientifically. (not because you’re..oops, “40 this year”)

This was on my agenda to review with Dina this week; unfortunately she was not able to make it to our weekly meeting. (sad face- LOL!) What Dina didn’t realize is while/during and after she told me about her higher fats being “caused” by olive oil and NUTS, that I purposely didn’t say anything about it.  I let her chew on it for a few days.  Now, look what’s happened, she’s using Pam.  This is a great change for her, but she didn’t realize that she CAN have Olive Oil. (sad face) BUT!!!! I’m glad she is enjoying her alternate!!! Nnniiiceee! We should all have some kind of alternate for things that we can’t figure out HOW to fit into our day yet, this is OK to do!  Those are the small changes that help.  Like “they” say: “baby steps”.

I can say “they”, I AM part of the “they”.

Need a change for cheeses? Find one.
Need a change for peanut butter? Find one.
Need a change for olive oil? Find one.
Need a change for chips?  Find one.
Need a change for ice cream?  Find one.
Need a change for fried foods?  Find one.

Dina did!! Sweet, big move, big deal, big congrats!

Dina, see you in  100 miles! Yaaaaa baby!  You’re a tiger!!! GGGRRR!!! :)
