New Year's Day

Dina:

Kelly emailed me this week and asked if I wanted to go to a Yoga session called: New Year’s Day Detox Flow. I was totally up for it and we went. And it might have been the best and most impactful $25 I have ever spent.

We started with some breathing exercises. And then moved on to a bit of reflection on the past year and setting intentions for the coming year. Our instructor asked us to write down the answers to five questions. Here are the questions and my answers:

Write down 5 things you like about yourself:
*Open mindedness, strong will, creativity, passionate, and sense of humor.

Write down 5 things that other people like about you:
*Sense of humor, generosity, caring, selflessness, and  my cooking (I am no chef, but I cook with my heart).

Name 5 things that 2011 gave to you:
*New friends, new opportunities, stronger relationships, and a greater focus on my kids and myself.

Now name 5 things you would like to actualize in 2012:
*More confidence, less anxiety, deeper friendships, love of self, and a happy, organized home (we are extremely happy, but happiness has no boundaries in my eyes).

Pick the one thing that would be the “number one” choice for 2012 and what would you feel if that one thing happened.
*My one thing was “love of self”. And I wrote that I would feel relief, satisfaction, confident, happiness, and a sense of completeness.

Then things got interesting. The instructor asked us to write on a sticky note the thing or things that stand in our way of having these things happen in 2012. I wrote:
*my 13 year old self and fear of success.

WOW.

After this we did our actual practice of yoga, set our intentions for the New Year and then something amazing happened. The instructor lit some candles and asked us to burn the sticky note. And with it, I burned away that image of that 13 year old kid and the fear of achieving success. I know that sound strange to admit but I often wonder if I finally achieved my goals, what would be next? And it actually has stopped me in my tracks sometimes.

Anyway, it was quite a moment for me. And it has been quite a few days afterwards. I feel a sense of peace and renewal. Not because of New Years and all the pressure that “holiday” brings…but because I made a significant shift in my way of thinking which just so happened to coincide with that day. I took a deep breath in and felt the cold air all the way down in my diaphragm…I haven’t felt that in years. Time to let go…to be honest…to be accepting of what is in front of me and welcome the change….

Not a single “resolution” was made in this house. Resolutions (as the yoga instructor pointed out) focus on the thing we thing are negative and want to change about ourselves. Instead I am focusing on the positives and will continue to work to make those things better. The rest will all fall into place…

PS – I bought a scale. Don’t worry…she already knows. :)

Kelly:

A.K.A: Random Number Generator that Dina has agreed she will NOT stand on it every day.  We will be using the same scale at the studio for our weigh ins.

Dina, what was your exercise on Monday?  I know Tuesday we have TRX…just curious.  And how many calories did you expend?

I also enjoyed the Yoga, the instructor had some great words; took them right out of my mouth.
Tomorrow during our meeting at the studio for you, I’d like to talk about your digestion.  I have some thoughts.  I also want to quickly touch on the 27% fats for last week.

Let’s chat!

See you in the AM.
