Day 37

Dina:

Have you ever had a picture or two that stayed imprinted on your brain for years and years? I have a couple. One is of me a couple of years ago sporting a muffin top and thighs from hell…I will share that one later. I thought I would share this one with you.

This is a picture of me in the seventh grade on my softball team.

Pink and green striped eye shadow. Horrible mullet-like hair cut. A mouth full of metal. A nose that looked a little larger than life. Some really horrible eyebrows. A painfully awkward, not quite attractive pre-teen…

This picture was taken over 25 years ago. And every day of those past 25 years, I have looked in the mirror and have seen this girl. No matter how much I am complimented or told I am attractive (I winced even typing that), this is what I see in the mirror. Even on a good hair day or a “wow” makeup day, that girl shows up in the mirror.

We could all go on for days about the many things that are wrong with this, but somewhere, at some point YOU have also had a perception of yourself that wasn’t quite real or in tune with what is reality right now.

The point of the story is that unless you change your own view of yourself, no one will ever see you for who you really are.

"Nothing to it but to Do it!"

Kelly:

I’m going to have to ask Dina then – how are you going to “change your own view of yourself” so that people “see you for who you really are”? or do you think people already do?

This goes back to so many things we’ve talked about.
Have you changed your view of yourself already?

How do you visualize yourself in 53 days and beyond?

How do you get your past out of your present and future and embrace it?

How do you begin to compliment yourself?

When do you look at a photo that seemingly has been “running your vision” (or should I say RUINING) your vision of yourself, and laugh in absolute hysterics?

How are you going to respond (to yourself and others) when significant body morphs happen?

Are you reflecting on a negative photo of yourself because you’re afraid of something?

Are you reflecting on a negative photo of yourself because you think you finally do have a future Dina in your mind’s eye?

What does that look like? How does that feel? …and why?

I think if any of us looked at a picture of us from 7th grade, we’d all be critical.  In actuality, we all looked goofy and in 25 years from now, we’re going to think the same thing.  “I can’t believe I wore that…had that…did that…who was that person in the pic again, what was their name?....where was that?….gosh, look at my goofy smile….look at those skinny jeans, can you believe MEN wore them too then?” The list goes on.

Your next blog post should be a brand new photo.  Like…umm…FROM TODAY.  Why not?, it’s the first day of the rest of your life.  And I would love to know the answers to the above questions.
I’m giddy for our meeting, looking forward to the results and sharing.  We have a lot of work to do this week! :)

Question: Were you ever bullied (or similar actions) about your looks?  I think this might open a little bit of a door….that’s me knocking.  You either let me/us in, or not.  You decide.
